Skinner is one of the original historic bonded wineries in El Dorado County dating back to the mid-1800s. The Skinner family is launching a new line of wines to celebrate that history.
Taste along with Eben Drucker, the National Sales Manager for Skinner Vineyards, and the Pip Team to learn about the history, the new “Native” project and taste and talk about the wines.
The virtual tasting is available to anyone who purchases a Skinner wine from The Pip. All 3-packs of the Skinner wines, which we’ll be tasting on 5/21, come with a gracious VIP tasting pass - an appointment-only tasting at the tasting room & winery in El Dorado (once it’s back open), courtesy of the Skinner family.
Food & wine pairing suggestions from Adam Smith, Director of Winemaking:
Rose: salmon or steelhead, grilled. or even smoked salmon or trout. also, prosciutto, is nice, but GOOD prosciutto. these early strawberries kicking around are a natural complement, and I've found a good quality Dubliner cheese is lovely.
Grenache Blanc: I paired this recently with a spring veg risotto... spring peas, asparagus, leeks, green garlic and lots of fresh grated parm. it was a great fit. I'd also suggest something with mushrooms, like a savory galette. and not to sound like one of the Golden Girls, but i make a killer beef stroganoff with morels (if you can find them). and that is a pairing worth pursuing!
Native: this is undoubtedly a grillin' wine. I like a little chill on the Native. This is the perfect wine to pair with a good steak. Personally I like to marinate a flank steak in tamari, mirin, ginger, garlic and black pepper and go to town. and all that umami plus the char on some yummy red meat is so perfectly ideal with the floral red-purple fruit and juicy acidity and general guzzle-able-ness of the Native. my only problem is the bottle usually disappears before the steak is done grilling.
